This is a quick post to let everybody interested in One-Click Ruby Installer project that the repository got relocated.

From http://github.com/luislavena/rubyinstaller

To http://github.com/oneclick/rubyinstaller

I’ve added a note there just in case. All the code up-to-date got migrated, so no loss.

Great job with the one click luis. Any timeline when the one click for Ruby 1.9.1 will be out?

Hey Luis, now that Matz has given clear direction that 1.9.1 and later versions of Ruby will be the future, what is the rationale behind putting efforts for 1.8.6 also? Shouldn’t you let the current installer for 1.8.6 be and focus more on 1.9.1?

  5. Good and valid point Jason, however:

    • Lot of libraries and extensions has not been updated for 1.9
    • Lot of users depend on 1.8.6 to release Rails, Merb and other type of applications (including myself)
    • There still will be fixes for 1.8.6, which users will like to get.

With the new DSL branch, having 1.8 and 1.9 coexist is not a big issue. I have something in my queue to deliver over the weekend in relation to this.

Hey Luis, has the announcement been made anywhere, I don’t find it here. Just that I am waiting to install the new version(1.9.1) on our machines here, so :)

    best regards.

  8. Couldn’t get the release out. Crappy internet connection at the apt. I’m staying here in NY…

Will try during the week or from the office this weekend.

Sorry for that, but is coming in good shape! :)

Hey Luis, another question – would you be compiling the ruby 1.9.2 dev version for the ruby installer or stick to the 1.9.1p0 only? Seems like ruby core has addressed considerably issues with 1.9.1p0 that would come out in the next release. Thoughts?

  11. Been thinking on that.

Having nightly or kind of automated builds is something I have in mind, but don’t have the resources to pull that off.

From my perspective stable releases announced by Ruby-core will be the ones that get released.

Hey Luis, I just saw the discussion on Ruby Core, about the points that Charlie and you raised. Is this holding off the release of the Ruby Installer 1.9 for now? Any updates for us mate?

  13. Hey Thomas,

While the discussion on Ruby-core will hold future release and compatibility stuff we are trying to merge and solve, is not the reason I’m holding of the new 1.9 release.

I’ll write a post tonight about it, since I’ll need some beta testers before this weeks end.
